Cross Cutting Policy Advisor
Context:
In order for Terre des homes work to make the greatest possible improvement to children’s lives, the programmes we deliver need to be of the highest quality. Terre des hommes (Tdh) takes a rights based approach, whereby children, families and communities are active and leading participants in their own development. Local stakeholders as key change actors should be reinforced in their capacities to drive the change. In humanitarian settings too, children and youth can and do play an important role in their own protection and in their communities’ response to an emergency.

Function details:
Tdh is looking for an experienced Policy Advisor to further define core cross-cutting approaches and ways of working. Priority thematic areas of focus include: the humanitarian-development nexus, child and youth participation, gender and diversity, partnership, inclusion, empowerment and resilience, and rights based approaches.
Profile:
With extensive experience of working on child rights and protection issues at the global level,
You possess excellent policy analysis and development skills with the ability to translate policy into clear recommendations and messages.
You have outstanding written communication skills with experience of drafting and producing public policy position papers and briefings adapted to a diverse audience, and of translating conceptual documents into concrete guidance to support implementation by field teams. The ability to network effectively and build strong working relationships, collaborating and influencing at all levels is essential.
You have a proven understanding of development, human rights and humanitarian issues, and demonstrable experience of collaborating with the humanitarian and development system. To perform effectively, you will need to stay abreast of developments that impact on Terre des hommes’ work, including political and policy trends and debates that affect child rights, as well as humanitarian quality and accountability standards like the Core Humanitarian Standards.
You have experience working with PMEAL frameworks, ideally in a humanitarian or development contexts. A first hand field experience of gender mainstreaming, inclusion of marginalized groups and participatory processes as well as experience as a trainer on cross-cutting issues would be strong assets and are highly desirable.
Ideally, you have good qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, including familiarity with relevant participatory research methodologies
Master’s level studies or equivalent university qualification in a relevant field is required;
English or French native speaker/ C2, Spanish and/or Arabic would be an asset
Swiss Nationality or valid work permit

Raising awareness within the Foundation on violence against children
Providing guidance to employees and others and defining expectations when it comes to preventing, raising, denouncing and responding to issues of child abuse
Reducing the risk of child abuse by selectively recruiting employees and others
Reducing the risk of child abuse by developing a culture of open and informed leadership within the organization and in our work with children
