Context:**

Terre des hommes Hellas (Tdh Hellas) started its activities in 2016, by providing child protection services to children and youth in migration, including dignified care solutions through case management, protective accommodation, legal assistance, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and life skills.Tdh Hellas is a national child rights and protection organisation.

Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss organisation for children’s aid. Through our health, protection and emergency relief programmes, we provide assistance to over four million children and their families in 42 countries each year.

Tdh Hellas is looking for an exceptional candidate for the position of Deputy Director, based in Athens. The candidate must hold a strong track record of working on child rights in Greece and exceptional knowledge of policies and practices in the field. The Deputy Director should lead by example; be a coach and mentor to the team; and, is a dynamic and motivational individual. The Deputy Director is not only part of the senior leadership team of Tdh Hellas, but also of the Europe region at Tdh.

Summary of the position:

The Deputy Director (DD) reports directly to the Head of Southern Europe Delegation based in Athens. The DD is responsible for the definition and implementation of programmes, operational and institutional strategies of Terre des hommes Hellas, in line with Tdh’s global strategy and policies. He/she is responsible for leading the advocacy and partnerships strategy of Tdh Hellas, as well as in representing the organization with authorities at national and local level in Greece, while also being a focal point for donors and other international interlocutors . The DD has direct management responsibility and supervision over the programme staff based on the organisation’s organogram.

Key responsibilities:

· To lead and oversee the implementation Tdh Hellas programme coordination, planning and monitoring;

· To keep up to date with the political situation in the country and follow up closely the implementation of the government’s agenda on child protection, social care, access to health, children and youth in migration, Juvenile Justice, Rule of law, social inclusion, and other related topics;

· To contribute and assist in writing project proposals and support fundraising efforts;

· Responsible of ensuring quality control of all public and internal documents, communication tools and strategies to promote the work of Tdh Hellas and its partners;

· Responsible to keep up to date with of the overall financial and budget management of projects under DD supervision including quality control, operational budget piloting (monitoring, forecasting, anticipating and proposing changes) and follow-up;

· In charge of organizing and facilitating quarterly programme review and lead or contribute to the organisation of various staff meetings, working groups, planning events, etc;

· To support the strengthening of knowledge management efforts in Tdh Hellas;

· To manage any research pieces of work led by Tdh Hellas and contribute to those led by other country offices in the region;

· To promote synergy and team building within Tdh Hellas, ensure good communication, coordination and collaboration between all team members including field staff;

· To propose a plan of capacity building for the team in close collaboration with the human resources and Head of Delegation;

· To work with the Head of Delegation, and other Management staff, for defining and reviewing the best team architecture possible, to ensure team coherence, collaboration and the repartition of roles and responsibilities among all relevant Tdh Hellas staff;

· To contribute to the Quality and Accountability work, M&E system, development and implementation;

· To act as a media focal point for Tdh Hellas;

· To keep close relationship with existing operational partners and create new partnerships;

· To represent Tdh Hellas in meetings with government officials, IGO representatives in Greece, funding and operational partners, and other.

Candidate profile:

· Advanced degree in International Development, Political Science, Social Sciences or Law is required;

· Strong expertise in the field of child rights in Greece; with specific expertise in at least one of the areas: child protection, friendly justice for children, children in migration, is preferred;

· A minimum of 5 years of management experience preferably, but not necessarily, with an international organization;

· Very strong people’s management and systems building skills;

· Capacity to work independently and under pressure, while always working as a team member;

· Excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, open minded and with strong emotional intelligence;

· Mastery or proficiency in both Greek and English (excellent reading, speaking and writing skills) (C2 in CEFR)
